A New Chapter Begins: The Creative Journey Ahead
What changes are coming to The Black Narrative?
Hi family,
I want to take a moment to let you know about an intentional shift happening here on The Black Narrative—one that feels aligned, overdue, and deeply personal.
Up until now, much of my writing has centered on Ghana, return, and diaspora identity. That foundation isn’t disappearing. It’s expanding.
Going forward, this space will more fully document my journey as a creative—how spirituality, place, ancestry, and ambition intersect as I build African-first brands and a global creative life between London, Africa, and the world.
To bring structure and depth to that evolution, I’m introducing a new monthly publishing rhythm, designed to give you different entry points into the work—reflective, analytical, cultural, and spiritual.
Here’s what to expect.
1. One Long-Form Essay (Deep, Narrative, Cinematic)
This will be the anchor piece each month.
Expect 1,400–1,800 words that weave together:
my creative evolution
my decision to leave America
why London became a turning point
how Africa grounds everything I build
These essays will read like chapters—personal, layered, and rooted in lived experience.
2. One Medium-Form Essay (Focused, Reflective, Place-Based)
These pieces will be more contained and observational.
Think:
London as a creative bridge
navigating ambition with ancestry
living in-between cultures
building African-first work in global cities
They’ll be reflective but tighter—essays you can read in one sitting and sit with afterward.
3. One Commentary Piece (Cultural, Opinionated, Shareable)
This is where I zoom out.
These essays will connect my personal experience to larger cultural shifts:
the rise of the global Black creative
why cities like London and Accra matter right now
African-first thinking beyond aesthetics
who is shaping the future of culture—and how
These are meant to spark conversation, not consensus.
4. One Spiritual Reflection (Quiet, Ancestral, Grounded)
Usually at the end of the month, I’ll share a shorter reflection—350–550 words— rooted in stillness.
These pieces center:
intuition
surrender
creativity as communion
what different lands awaken in us
They’re not sermons. They’re offerings.
Why this change?
Because my life work have moved into a new season.
Because creativity, for me, is no longer just output. It’s alignment.
And because I want this space to feel like a living archive of becoming.
If you’ve been here since the beginning, thank you for growing with me.
If you’re new, welcome—you’re arriving at a moment of clarity.
As always, I’m grateful you’re here.
With intention,
Justin K. Rogers
